AFP Certification Scholarship

Part of the AFP DEI Initiative, the AFP Certification Scholarship is designed to provide support to high-potential students and early career professionals from underrepresented communities who have 0-2 years of full-time work experience and will be pursuing AFP’s Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or Certified Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis (FPAC) certification as first-time candidates.

Candidates may apply to receive a scholarship for either the CTP or the FPAC certification but not both.

The scholarship application for the CTP will open in early 2024. If you would like to receive an email notifying you when the application is open, please fill out this form.

AFP Certification Scholarship Package

Scholarship awardees are entitled to:

For the FPAC

  • One-time waived FPAC New Applicant fee (includes Exam Part I and Part II).
  • One-year subscription to the FPAC Exam Prep Platform.
  • AFP membership for one year (if a non-member).

For the CTP

  • One-time waived CTP New Applicant fee.
  • One-year subscription to the CTP Exam Prep Platform.
  • AFP membership for one year (if a non-member).

In the event that the scholarship awardee does not pass the CTP/FPAC exam or needs to re-register for a different testing window, the scholarship does not cover the re-registration fee.


 

AFP Certification Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

  • Have 0-2 years of full-time work experience (not including internships).
  • Identify as being part of an underrepresented community.
  • Must be a first-time candidate for the CTP or FPAC certification program.
  • Must not currently be registered to take a CTP or FPAC certification program. (No refunds or substitutions allowed.)
  • Must meet the entrance requirements for the CTP or FPAC program by the start of the testing window for which you are applying.
  • If currently an undergraduate student, must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program with a finance-related major (such as finance, accounting, economics or business) and be on track to graduate within two years.
  • If currently a graduate student, must be enrolled in an accredited graduate-level program related to finance or business.

You do not need to be an AFP member to apply for this scholarship.

FPAC Exam Eligibility Requirements

Candidates may enroll in the FPAC program and begin taking the exams before the Education and Experience Requirements have been fully satisfied but will not be awarded the credential until the requirements have been met.

*Two years of FTE college/university teaching experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, corporate financial planning, strategic planning or financial analysis can be substituted for each year of work experience.

**A small number of credentials have been approved to satisfy the Education Requirement as a substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.  Those credentials include ACMA, FCMA, ACCA and FCCA.  Please note: if you are using a credential to satisfy the Education Requirement you may not use that same credential to waive the Part I exam.

CTP Exam Eligibility Requirements

You must meet one of these professional experience categories to be eligible to take the CTP exam.

CTP-16_Eligibility_Requirements

Candidates may enroll in the CTP program and take the exam before the Education and Experience Requirements have been fully satisfied but will not be awarded the credential until the requirements have been met.

The professional experience requirement to sit for the CTP exam is a minimum of two years of full-time work experience in a career-based corporate cash/treasury management or corporate finance-related position. Positions such as internships, vacation/holiday employment or volunteer positions do not qualify in meeting the full-time experience requirement.

AFP Certification Scholarship Application Requirements

  1. Saved (not submitted) CTP/FPAC application with completed Education and Experience sections. This application is separate from the scholarship application. The Education and Experience sections of the CTP/FPAC application must be completed in order for the AFP certification team to verify that you are eligible to take the exam.
     
    Your application will not be considered if it does not pass the eligibility check from the AFP certification team or if there is insufficient information to verify that you are eligible. The Education and Experience sections of the CTP/FPAC application must be saved to your AFP account (not submitted) by the application deadline.
  2. Completed AFP Certification Scholarship Application Form
  3. One letter of recommendation from a professor, supervisor or other financial professional who can speak to your work ethic and involvement in the treasury or finance field. The letter of recommendation must clearly list the recommender’s name, position and organization. You will upload the letter of recommendation to the AFP Certification Scholarship Application Form.

Instructions for How to Save (Not Submit) the FPAC Application Form

FPAC Application Form

  1. Click “Submit Your Application.” You will be prompted to log in or create a new account.
  2. If you need to create a new account, you will be taken to the New Visitor Registration Form. Complete the Personal Information, Address Information, Contact Information and Login Information.
     
    Note: The name you enter must match exactly what is on your ID. The mailing address you enter is where your certificate will be mailed if you pass the certification exam.
  3. Continue to the FPAC application. Select the highest level of education that you have completed then continue.
  4. Select the Experience tab and choose “Defer Reporting,” then accept the Work Experience Acknowledgement.
  5. Select the Degree tab (if you’ve completed a bachelor’s degree) or the Anticipated Degree tab (if you’re currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program) and enter information about your (anticipated) degree.
     
    If you entered that you do not have (or are not pursuing) a finance-related degree, you will get an additional question asking you to enter other credential or supplemental education information.
  6. Once you’ve completed the sections above, you are finished (for the purposes of the scholarship application) and can exit the tab. DO NOT complete the Exam Waiver tab. DO NOT submit the application.
