WASHINGTON, D.C. – ChildFund International was awarded the AFP Pinnacle Award Grand Prize Sunday at the Opening General Session of the AFP Annual Conference. The awards, sponsored by Wells Fargo & Co., have recognized excellence in treasury and finance each year since 1997.

Fellow finalists Toyota Financial Services and Theorem Clinical Research joined ChildFund on stage to accept their awards. Finalists were selected based on their innovative solutions that helped their treasury and finance operations run more efficiently and effectively.

Wells Fargo will make a $10,000 donation to the charity of ChildFund’s choice, Operation Shoestring. David Trotter, executive vice president and head of Treasury Management Sales and Marketing at Wells Fargo, and Jim Kaitz, AFP President & CEO, hosted the award ceremony.

“All three Pinnacle finalists faced enormous challenges, and all three came up with solutions that were so unique, they completely changed the game,” said Trotter.

ChildFund International operates in some of the most remote and dangerous regions of the world, where consumers have no access to banks and payroll has to be delivered by armored car. To surmount these challenges, ChildFund’s treasury team rolled out a custom mobile payment program, procuring the phones and training consumers to use them, and it partnered with banks to release mobile-money payments. Today, ChildFund remits 2,500 monthly mobile payments, speeding payments while dramatically reducing risk and cost.

“This particular Grand Pinnacle Award recognizes all those little innovators who do great things without spending millions; it tells ChildFund's supporters what a good steward of their money we are, and it makes us the first ever NGO recipient,” said Sassan Parandeh, CTP, treasurer for ChildFund International. “Of course this means the world to us AFP, what an honor. Thank you!”
