Regulatory initiatives in Europe and the UK are forcing banks to make their data available in a secure manner to third parties with customer consent, either by gathering transaction data or initiating payments on the customer’s behalf. While the regulation opens the door to innovation, it also creates massive competition for banks that now will have to compete not only with each other but also with FinTech. Businesses will likely benefit from an increased number of service providers, product innovation and transparency in fees.

This course will discuss regulatory initiatives in Europe (PSD2) and the UK (Open Banking) that are bringing more competition and innovation to the financial services and its effects on US treasury operations. Session one will review the current payments systems in Europe and the UK along with the new regulatory environment and the catalysts of change. Session two will focus on new cross-border payment initiatives and the ultimate benefit for corporate treasury.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Select the appropriate payment system in Europe and UK.

  • Explain the new regulatory environment, Open Banking and PSD2.

  • Identify the differences between the new cross-border payment initiatives.

  • Implement the benefits that the new regulatory environment will bring to businesses with presence in Europe and UK.
