If you’re thinking about taking the examination to be a Certified Corporate FP&A professional you’d better be comfortable using spreadsheets. The new FP&A Exam, currently in its beta testing window through March 31, features task-based simulations for test-takers utilizing spreadsheets as well as spreadsheet software to perform calculations.

Task-based simulations are items that require the manipulation of data to solve a problem similar to those that FP&A professionals typically encounter.

Written by subject matter experts, the FP&A Exam emphasizes using spreadsheets because they are a key tool for financial planning and analysis professionals, said Donna Berzellini, CTP, managing director of certification for AFP, which is offering the certification. “Employers can be assured that the FP&A Exam is not just theory-based. It offers a strong practical skills component since spreadsheets are so critical to the profession,” she said.

FP&A professionals can learn more about the spreadsheet requirements, and additional information about the Exam, by watching this tutorial . To view slides of the tutorial, click here.

Inaugural pricing is in effect for the August/September window and the February/March 2015 window if you enroll by June 27, 2014.
