Dear AFP Members:
This month at AFP, we are gearing up for the 2007 AFP Annual Conference in Boston, a city that is rich in history and known for its dedication to education and innovation. What better city in which to share our own rich history and dedication to education and innovation in finance?
Mark Twain once said that in Philadelphia they ask who your parents are. In New York they ask what you are worth. But in Boston they ask what you know. And so, consistent with the knowledge theme we have assembled great innovators, thinkers, authors and educators from around the world to participate in this year’s event in Boston.
Next month the conference will kick-off with a one-on-one interview by Emmy Award winning news anchor Elizabeth Vargas and business icon Jack Welch. His ideas for driving growth, eliminating bureaucracy and cultivating a learning-based corporate culture were radical when they were introduced, but have now become widely adopted in organizations, large and small, around the world.
At this year’s Executive Institute, professors from the MIT Sloan School of Management will lead discussions on "The Delta Model - A New Framework for Strategy" and "A Corporate Finance Discussion - Global Capital Flows," among others.
And what better way to further one’s knowledge than by attending our welcome reception, which will be held in the country's oldest municipal library, the Boston Public Library. But don’t expect anything bookish! Packed with entertainment, networking opportunities, great food and sponsored by HSBC, this lively event will let you network with colleagues in an atmosphere of fun. Who said learning can’t be fun!
On Tuesday night you will be treated to the world-renowned Boston Pops under the leadership of Conductor Keith Lockhart at Boston Symphony Hall. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Boston is often called a city with a long and storied past, and I look forward to seeing you at the most important finance event in the world! For more details go to www.afponline.org/conference.
See you in Boston!
