'The Bottom Line" column appears on the last page of Exchange magazine, this from the April 2007 issue.
Late last month, the Association for Financial Professionals moved into new office space a few blocks from our old digs, still within easy reach of policy makers in Washington.
The new office is full of light and open space. It includes classrooms, plenty of areas for collaboration, and even a podcasting studio! But the most significant feature, without a doubt, is the view from the window.
AFP's new space overlooks the intersection of the old Western Road and what is now Wisconsin Avenue. If you are a history buff like me, you will recognize this as one of the most important intersections in American history.
The view, quite clearly, is the beginning of the old Cumberland or Western Trails Road, mostly Route 40, the trail that the early pioneers followed when they crossed the frontiers and made their way to the Pacific. The trail spans the entire country, from Bethesda, Maryland to California.
To honor the pioneer spirit of the early travelers, President Truman had placed at strategic intervals commemorative marble statues of some rather serious looking travelers in mid stride, and one of these is right near the office.
No feng shui expert could have staked out a more auspicious site for this association as we move forward to serve members.
AFP’s phones and e-mails remain the same, but our building is near an important intersection:
Association for Financial Professionals 4520 East-West Highway, Suite 750 Bethesda, MD 20814, 301-907-2862.
