The number of job openings and the pace of hiring both declined during March, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released on Friday. There were a seasonally adjusted 4.014 million jobs available at the end of March, down 2.7 percent from February. But even with the month-to-month drop, job openings were 3.5 percent above year ago levels with March representing only the third time over the past six years in which the count was over 4 million job openings.
