  • In this session, award-winning journalist and preeminent capital markets expert Gillian Tett will explain the origins of the worldwide recession and discuss what the future holds for capital markets across the globe. She is widely credited with being the first to cover the credit crunch in the mainstream press. Beginning in 2004, she began to cover capital markets, correctly anticipating the need to watch an industry growing uncommonly fast. By 2007, a year ahead of the curve, she began issuing her newsbreaking alarms of a looming financial crisis. Gillian is the author of Fool's Gold, the gripping tale of how the world of shadow banking was created and then spun out of control. She is assistant editor of the Financial Times, overseeing global coverage of financial markets and writing a regular column for FT.

A panel discussion on these topics will conclude the first part of the program. The second half (3:15-4:15pm) will commence with a presentation on the nuts and bolts of banking in China, touching on wholesale banking, transaction banking capabilities, trade, and supply chain finance. Finally, a corporate practitioner will discuss their perspective on the current business and banking structure in China, and detail the challenges encountered and successes achieved by their treasury team. 106: A Case Study in Multicurrency Notional Pooling
  • In today's difficult environment, using all internal sources of cash has become mission critical for treasury. This case study will demonstrate how the implementation of multicurrency notional pooling allowed an international company to tap into foreign excess cash and reduce their need to borrow from their banks. They achieved significant interest savings, and eliminated the administration of intercompany loans because the pool operating agreement replaced all of their intercompany loan agreements.
