AFP's Annual Conference Educational Session Selection Process
AFP receives questions about the ability to "purchase" speaking slots at the annual conference or in AFP forums. We have always maintained a very distinct and impenetrable line between our education offerings and sales opportunities. The AFP educational programming is unbiased and comprised of original content. We, therefore, maintain the credibility of the programming with the industry. This serves to ensure that the needs of our ever-increasing audience are met and that vendors continue to find a growing, vibrant meeting at which to showcase their products and services.
The program for the annual conference is made up of approximately 150 educational sessions, most of which are one hour in duration. We also offer "intensives," which are generally more technical in nature and require a more hands-on learning experience.
Accepted educational sessions must fit three criteria:
- They must include original content and they should not have been offered at another conference or seminar.
- Content must be unbiased: No session can include any selling of products or services; and the decision to either accept or reject sessions is not linked to a company's sales or sponsorship activity with AFP.
- Sessions must include topical, current information about issues relevant to treasury and financial professionals.
The process of selecting educational sessions to be offered at the conference is managed by the association's staff, who work with a task force of seasoned AFP members to review and select proposals or develop sessions on topics that have not been covered in the submitted proposals. The overall program is crafted to ensure that all subject areas are equitably covered and that they will meet the needs of attendees who are in various stages of their careers - from junior level to the most senior executives.
Each educational session should include at least one corporate practitioner as a co-presenter. Additionally, to ensure impartiality, while companies may submit multiple proposals, only two can be accepted from each company.
