The Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets (CIEBA) is a nationally recognized voice for those corporate executives who are responsible for the investment funds of pension and employee welfare benefit plans regulated under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
CIEBA is composed of more than 100 of the largest corporate pension funds in the U.S. with more than $ 1.3 trillion in retirement plan assets under management on behalf of more than 15 million plan participants and beneficiaries.
The members of CIEBA believe that a healthy private industry pension system provides a major source of retirement income complementing individual savings and Social Security. The system's plan assets also provide a significant source of long-term capital essential for growth, and through security trading, contribute to market liquidity and a lower cost of capital.
ERISA sets forth standards for funding the retirement benefit obligations to plan participants and the fiduciary requirement that investment decisions be made solely in the interest of plan participants.
CIEBA is committed to strengthening the very successful private industry pension system in the United States.
