AFP Board of Directors
Chairman LOREN STARR, CTP Loren Starr is Senior Managing Driector and Chief Financial Officer of Invesco headquartered in Atlanta, GA. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002 and served recently as Vice Chairman, Secretary and chairman of the Policy Committee. He served as a member of the Audit Committee in 2004. He served on the AFP Board of Directors from 1999-2001, during which time he chaired the Special Committee for Strategic Planning in 2001 and was a member of the Board Strategy Committee in 1999. He has been a member of AFP since 1996.
Vice Chairman JAMES GILLIGAN, CTP Jim Gilligan is Manager, Corporate Treasury at Great Plains Energy, Inc. and President, KLT Investments Inc., a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy, both located in Kansas City, MO. He served as Chairman of the 2006 Annual Conference Planning Task Force and as a Pinnacle Award judge. Jim was also a member of the Annual Conference Planning Task Force in 2004 and 2005. He has served as President, 3-term Treasurer and Conference Chair of the Kansas City AFP, and is a current member of its Board of Directors. Jim has been a member of the AFP Board of Directors since 2004 and serves on the Finance Committee. He has been a member of AFP since 1998.
Vice Chairman DELORES RATLIFF, CTP Delores Ratliff is Manager, Bank Initiatives and Negotiations, Target Corporation in Minneapolis, MN. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002 and currently serves as a member of the Finance Committee. Delores is a member of the Payments Advisory Group and the Payments Forum Task Force. She is an avid and long-term AFP volunteer and has been a member of the AFP Policy Committee, Exchange Editorial Advisory Board and Cyberconference Task Force. Delores has also served as Chairman of the Risk Management Task Force and the Retail Industry Task Force. She has served as President, Vice President, Program and Conference Chair of the Minnesota Treasury Management (MTMA). In addition, Delores is a member of the Wachovia Retail Advisory Board, as well as several boards within her community. She has been a frequent speaker at national and regional AFP conferences and forums. She has been a member of AFP since 1987.
Past Chairman SALLY SMEDAL, CTP Sally Smedal was appointed Chief Financial Officer at G.L. Mezzetta,
Inc. in American Canyon, CA in June 2008. Previously she was Treasurer & Controller, at Basic American Foods headquartered in Walnut Creek, CA. Sally was elected to the Board of Directors in 2001, served as Vice Chairman, Treasurer in 2003 and 2004 and then Chairman in 2005 and 2006. She has served as Chairman of the Certification Committee and was a member of that Committee from 2002-2004. In addition, she was Chairman of the Certification Test Committee from 1997-1999. In 1993 Ms. Smedal also Chaired the Certification Standards Committee that developed Service Codes. In 2002 she was a Pinnacle Award judge. She has been a member of AFP since 1991.

Ira Birns, CPA, CTP Ira Birns is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at World Fuel Services Corporation, headquartered in Miami. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002. He recently served as Vice Chairman, Finance and chairman of the Finance Committee and previously served on the Audit Committee. Ira was a member of the Treasury Panel which reviewed the final Body of Knowledge for Essentials of Treasury Management I. He is a frequent speaker at national AFP conferences, including his participation in a session on European Treasury Management in 2002 and rating agency relationships in 2004. He has been a member of AFP since 1991.
Brian Breen, CTP Brian Breen is Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Simmons Bedding Company in Atlanta, GA. He served on the 2006 Annual Conference Task Force and is a regular attendee of the Corporate Treasurers Council roundtables. In 2005 he was elected to the AFP300 in recognition of his accomplishments and credentials as a treasury professional. Brian was recognized by Global Finance Magazine as one of the top rated Treasury professionals in the industry. He has been a member of AFP since 2001.
Jeff Cappelletti, CTP Jeff Cappelletti is Corporate Treasurer for The Wackenhut Corporation in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. In addition to being a corporate officer of Wackenhut, Jeff serves as President of Titania Insurance Company of America; a Vermont based captive insurance company. He served on the 2006 and 2005 Annual Conference Task Force. In 2002 he served as a Pinnacle Award judge. He has been a member of AFP since 2001.
Michael Connolly Mike Connolly is Vice President - Treasurer at Tiffany & Co. in Parsippany, NJ. He served on the AFP Global Corporate Treasurers Forum Task Force for the 2005 and 2006 conferences and chaired the 2005 conference. He is also a member of the AFP Corporate Treasurers Council Research Advisory Board. He has been a member of AFP since 1999.
Susan Glass, CTP Susan Glass is Credit Manager/Finance Division at Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City, MO. She has served on the 2003 Payments Conference Task Force. She chaired the 2002 Annual Conference Task Force and was a member of the Task Force in 2001. In 2000 she served as chairman of the Retail Industry Task Force and was a member of the Task Force in 1998-1999. At the local level, Susan has served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City AFP and was President in 1999. She served as program committee chair, secretary and vice president from 1996-1999. Susan has been a contributor at the AFP Annual Conference speaking on various subjects since 2003. She has been a member of AFP since 1995.
John Hodgkinson, CTP John Hodgkinson is Manager, Treasury Operations of Publix Super Markets, Inc. in Lakeland, FL. He has been on the Board of Directors since 2004 and has served on the Policy Committee. He was a member of the 2004 Annual Conference Task Force and served as Chairman of the Retail Industry Forum Task Force in 2003 and as a member of that Task Force in 2002 and 2001. He has been a member of AFP since 1999.
Donald L. Hollingsworth, CTP Donald Hollingsworth is Assistant Treasurer and Manager, Banking and Investor Services at Ameren Corporation in St. Louis, MO. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2001 and served as a member of the Policy Committee, as well as the Special Ethics Committee. Don served as Chairman of the Payments Advisory Group in 2003 and has been a member of that Committee since 1998. Other volunteer positions include Payments Task Force Chairman in 2000, membership on the Utilities Industry Task Force in 1996, and he participated in the TMA/BAI RFP Projects in 1995. He has been a member of AFP since 1992.
Bradley Larson, CTP Brad Larson is Vice President/Treasurer at Pamida, Inc. in Omaha, NE. Prior to joining Pamida in early 2006, he was Vice President, Treasury Services at PetSmart in Phoenix, AZ. Brad has been on the Board of Directors since 2001, and served as Vice Chairman, Secretary from 2002-2004. He served as the first Chairman of the AFP Working Capital Management Task Force. In 2004 and 2005 Brad was named to the AFP300. He has been a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences, forums and teleconferences. Brad has been a member of AFP since 1995.
Maureen O'Boyle, CCM Maureen O'Boyle is Assistant Treasurer at Shaklee Corporation in Pleasanton, CA. She has served on the Government Relations Committee since 2002, and in 2005 spoke at the AFP Conference. From 1998 to 2001 Maureen served on the Peninsula TMA as Treasurer, Vice President and President, and in 1997 served as their Program Chair. Maureen also served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President of the San Francisco Treasury Management Association from 1988-1992. She has been a member of AFP since 1988.
William Quinn (CIEBA) Bill Quinn is Chairman and CEO of American Beacon Advisors and represents CIEBA. He has served as President of American Beacon Advisors since the firm was created in 1986 and became Chairman and CEO in April 2006. American Beacon Advisors manages approximately $49 billion in pension assets and short-term cash assets on behalf of its affiliate, American Airlines and outside clients. He also serves as President and Trustee of the American Beacon Funds, which he was responsible for founding. Bill is a frequent speaker on investment matters to industry groups. He has been a member of CIEBA since 1985 and has been a member of AFP since 2001.
Dennis Reedy, CTP Dennis Reedy is Managing Director of Treasury Operations at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He has been on the Board of Directors since 2004 and has been a member of the Audit Committee. Dennis served on the Certification Body of Knowledge Committee for Essentials Six and Seven. He served on the 1995 TMA/BAI RFP project and Item Writers and Job Analysis Task Forces and has been a speaker and industry roundtable facilitator at the AFP annual meeting. He served as President/Treasurer and is a current board member of the AFP of Indiana. He is co-director for the Treasury Institute of Higher Education, of which AFP is an alliance partner. He has been a member of AFP since 1987.
Laurie Sherwood Laurie Sherwood is Vice President, Corporate Development and Treasurer at Atmos Energy Corporation in Dallas, TX. Atmos is the largest pure natural gas utility in the U.S., serving over 3 million customers in twelve states. She is an active participant in AFP's Corporate Treasurers' Roundtables and has worked with AFP in its investigation of banks' credit-tying practices. She has been a member of AFP since 2000. |
