Increasingly confident consumers and the rapid drop in gasoline prices led to strong retail sales during November. The Census Bureau estimates retail sales grew 0.7 percent during the month to a seasonally adjusted $449.3 billion.. (PDF, Log-in required)

1. The holiday season starts with a strong November retail sales report.
2. While plummeting oil and gasoline prices push down both producer and import prices, there is little inflation elsewhere in the economy.

Manufacturing activity grew in November at its fastest rate since early spring, and the rebound went beyond a surge in auto production.
